Maui Mid Summer Musings

Aloha Folks,

For Maui B&B suggestions and all things Maui, please drop by my new, updated and informative website : www.maui-bed-and-breakfast.com

Aloha,

It’s July and in Upcountry Makawao that usually means a Parade of All Parades Hawaiian style! Horses covered in flower lei and gracious Pa’u riders dressed in fine gowns grace our main street while keiki start the day racing up the street with stick horses.

Even if the future of long standing traditions is uncertain, what is certain is that tourism is back in full force. We went from zero to full-throttle- overload in 4 short months. This dramatic turn around caught many businesses by surprise. Being understanding and patient will go a long ways towards a smooth return to visitors and residents co-existing.

Though not directly interacting with visitors daily since the sale of Hale Ho’okipa Inn, maintaining a sustainable Island Lifestyle is important to me and I want to continue to share my mana’o regarding stewardship of our natural resources, balance and promoting the thriving of small business in our island economy. I miss interacting with some of my valued guests, and am also grateful for a less stressful phase of life.

The new www.maui-bed-and-breakfast.com website now offers accommodation suggestions, regional information and some beautiful Maui photos. Visitors planning returns or first visits, please be advised to check for updates of all kinds, plan ahead for car rentals and bring your personal Aloha with you. This will go a long ways in assuring “Smooth Sailing” for all.

I’ve been stretching my artistic wings since the fall of 2020. Being unable to work as much in our community print studio, I got creative and starting learning and practicing the art of Shibori, Japanese resist dyeing. I changed directions somewhat , starting with scarves and bags and morphed into home goods with pillow covers, shams and bed runners. My home goods are 100% Made on Maui, and very unique. My collections are themes of the natural world of the islands, such as the Oceania, Forest, Spring Flowers and more. Some pieces are currently posted on my Cherie Attix Instagram site and I will make to order :

My new IG site is coming soon @ShiboribyCherie

Sending Aloha out Worldwide and may this time bring hope and happiness.

Maui Market Minute and More

Real Estate is very hot in many places these days and the islands are sizzling.

I just closed on a darling restored vintage home in Makawao. My client’s offer was chosen out of 5 offers, and according to the Sellers, the Buyer’s personal note and humor cinched the deal . With patience , good luck and strong offers, home buying is still successful as more inventory is coming to market. Our population grows and shrinks, depending somewhat on world wide events. People left and new people came in 2020, and the trend continues in 2021. Living on a remote island is not for everybody, but for the fortunate who make Maui their home, the rewards are great. Daily beach walks and swims really got me through the months of shut down and uncertainty. I am so grateful .

Merrie Monarch Festival was just celebrated, and even though the judges were the only folks in attendance, it was televised and that was a wonderful step towards normalcy and a beautiful celebration of Hawaiian cultural traditions of hula and mele . This photo I snapped while watching the show,. Their expressions share their love and dedication for the art of hula.

Aloha and may the world heal in oh so many ways,

Cherie
